The Art as well makes me really stare at the Image to take everything in, and the way it’s all sequentially told is beautiful.

It is an improvement over the first volume, in part because it's more cohesive, consistent and there are no random stories that don't help the main plot.

There are a couple more appearances in this book mostly because of the tie in to Crisis on Infinite Earth, we see Batman, Cain, Abel, Doctor Fate, Zattana and a couple of Moore's favorites like Deadman, The Phantom Stranger and Etrigan. It really only salvaged five stars in the final arc, which was just too well told to be anything less than full marks.

The intro to this book blew me away and I'm glad I waited to read this series, this is a great edition for a first timer. I knew before going in that this run spawned the publishing offspring Vertigo into being and man, what a start. Moore, Bissetre and Totleben were vetted by the Authority Code and decided to not submit the book, and even threatened to quit if they had to change stuff again and again, beginning a trend for more adult comics and paving the way for others.

I dislike Stephen Bisette's way of portraiting shadows, using straight lines, and the faces and some panels are inconsistent. While there are horror elements in it its a highly philosophical journey with so many unexpected cameos (which is another reason you should read some other material of vertigo first) that it fullfilled all the expectations I had and then some. There are few artists who could bring Moore's sublime vision to life, but Bissett and Totleben are more than up to the challenge, to the point where, should they no longer appear on the book, I may have to invent a time machine, go back 40 years to this books creation and get a riot going.

Featuring weekly comic release discussions, creator AMAs, a friendly and helpful userbase, and much more!

Packed with some of the best issues of the run so far I’m looking forward to how this epic saga is going to wrap up.
